đź”® October Astrology & Remembering the Spirit of Halloween

October is a month of transition—both in the heavens and in our traditions. We begin in Libra season (balance, harmony, relationships), where the scales ask us to reflect on partnership, fairness, and inner alignment. As the Sun shifts into Scorpio on October 23, the energy deepens. Scorpio invites us into the underworld of transformation, mystery, and rebirth—perfectly mirroring the season of falling leaves and nature’s reminder that endings are gateways to renewal.

Culturally, this shift is honored through the traditions of Halloween, All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day. Rooted in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, this time marked the end of the harvest and the start of the dark half of the year. Samhain was seen as a liminal time, when the veil between the worlds grows thin—allowing communication with ancestors, honoring the dead, and receiving guidance from the unseen realms.

Halloween’s costumes, fires, and offerings trace back to these rituals of protection and remembrance. The Catholic traditions of All Saints’ and All Souls’ continue this thread, honoring those who have passed and connecting us to the cycle of life, death, and spirit. At this time my family goes to the graveyard and spend time with our family who have passed. We picnic. Tell them about our year. Place flowers and gifts and tell them we live them still. I always have photos of my family who have passed that are displayed every October. With gifts and trinkets on a family alter. We remember you. We love you.

October reminds us that life and death walk hand in hand. It’s a sacred month of balance, transformation, and connection to the beyond. As the veil thins, we are invited to honor our ancestors, release what has ended, and open ourselves to the wisdom of the unseen.

🔥 A Simple Samhain Ritual: Honoring the Ancestors

  1. Create Sacred Space – Light a candle and sit quietly. If you wish, place photos, heirlooms, or objects that remind you of loved ones on a small altar or table.
  2. Offer Gratitude – Place an offering of seasonal food (like apples, nuts, bread, or cider) as a symbol of sharing the harvest with your ancestors.
  3. Speak Their Names – Say aloud the names of those you wish to honor. Thank them for their guidance, love, or lessons.
  4. Listen in Stillness – Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and see if any messages, feelings, or symbols come through. Trust your intuition.
  5. Release & Blessing – When finished, leave the candle burning safely for a while, then extinguish it with gratitude. Offer the food to the earth or compost as a final blessing.

This simple practice connects us to our lineage, roots us in gratitude, and reminds us that the cycle of life, death, and rebirth is sacred.
